Delhi HC Proceeds Ex-Parte Against Vivek Agnihotri After He Failed To Appear Before Court In 2018 Contempt Of Court Case-Report
Troubles seem to be mounting for filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri as The Delhi High Court proceeded ex-parte against him and others. On Monday, the Court decided to proceed ex-parte against Vivek, scientist and political commentator Anand Ranganathan, Swarajya Magazine, and others in a 2018 Contempt-of-Court case. This comes after the director and others failed to appear before the court. Reportedly, nobody from their side appeared in connection with a 2018 contempt case.

For the unversed, the contempt of court case was filed against Vivek and others for their comments criticizing Justice S Muralidhar for granting bail to Urban Naxal Gautam Navlakha in the Bhima Koregaon violence case. As per the latest reports, during the hearing, a bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Amit Sharma made this decision after they noted that none among the three appeared before the court despite issuing notices. The court asked them to appear in the fresh notice in May but no one on their behalf appeared for a scheduled hearing. ALSO READ: WHAT! Reportedly, back in October 2018, contempt proceedings against Economist S Gurumurthy was initiated by Delhi High Court over his article on Justice S Muralidhar. In the article, he raised questions about S Muralidhar’s credibility after he granted bail to Gautam Navlakha, one of the accused in the Koregaon Bhima violence case. The Kashmir Files director and Ranganathan tweeted on the same lines. Vivek Agnihotri in his tweet claimed that Gautam Navlakha was shown leniency since he was a friend of the judge's wife. He also retweeted the article on his Twitter handle and following this, he came under the radar of the court, and thus contempt of court notice was sent to him.
